Formed under a joint agreement between Battlefords Tribal Council and the public and separate school boards, Sakewew High School was opened in 2002 and is the first of its kind in Canada

The academic programs at Sakewew High School support the principles of the Saskatchewan Core Curriculum and the Saskatchewan Goals of Education from a culturally relevant perspective, using Aboriginal examples and experiences. Alternate programs, such as Cree language and Native studies, along with enriched activities in dance and art – and on-site childcare service – encourage and motivate students to stay in school and graduate.
